General Discussion » Block Bearing Housing Sizes? » 1/17/2017 1:41 pm |
Engine bearing catalogs, or AERA spec sheets. I find almost every time that main housings, and cam housings, are on the big side of spec or .0005 over spec.

General Discussion » Babbitt to Bearing Shell Coversions » 12/19/2016 10:09 am |
Well, I've never done it. Seems like I would have in 35 years, but no. However, I always thought it was done with bearings in the catalog. You have probably already checked these. Clevite CB-416P for 2.437 housing bore or CB-503B for 2.404 housing bore. Then either mill or hand work slots for the locating tabs. Crank dia is same for both, but lengths are different. The few of these I have done I sent the rods to EGGE in Cal. for re-babbit.

General Discussion » early model chev 283 / 396 / 427 cam bearing » 8/30/2016 7:45 am |
My bad there-guess I forgot. Haven't seen one of those SB for a spell. Now I will probably take in one of those 265 chevys that didn't have an oil filter. Glad you had one in the shop to help with the question.

The '65 and '66 big blocks had a grooved rear journal and internal groove in the bearing, no groove in the housing bore. Crane Cams says the cam groove is centered to the journal, .187 wide and .109 deep. Use cam bearing set for 65-66.
I thought the small block always had a groove in the housing bore.

Are you refering to the splashers that are over the top of the spring?
Looking in an old chilton manual, pictures show that all springs had these.

General Discussion » Chevrolet crankshaft dowel pins .... solid, not split ? » 6/23/2015 10:34 am |
Dura-Bond part # AD-679. I have seen a ton of ext. balanced chevys put together without a dowel, the bolts line up any old way. How can it get out of a shop without a dowel? If it is an original crank, what happened to it?

I have an old Goodson catalog that shows it - part no. CHR-16. Don't know if they still have it. I have done it with an end mill it my air float guide machine.
